CLOUD IN TROUSERS

“Almighty, you gave us an assortment:
A head and a pair of hands to exist.
Why couldn’t you make it so,
without torment,
We could kiss, kiss, and kiss?!”
– Vladimir Mayakovsky

The first extensive and most emblematic poem of the great Vladimir Mayakovsky, written in 1914, and translated by our own great Yiannis Ritsos, is now being transferred on stage as a multi-artistic event. It is a torrential text, full of sensitivity, praising love, elevating the revolution, mocking the complacent romanticism of "courtly" poetry. But above all, it is a piece of writing that glorifies the constant agony of its creator.

Ιt is exactly this "agonizing struggle to cease agony" -in the words of Yiannis Ritsos-, that the performance seeks to bring to life on stage, by creating an evocative sound landscape that will surround the bodies of dancers, who will ever fall in love, revolt and become self-sarcastic. The poet's text, as the dominant element of the performance, will be its solid basis, enriched with the sound-kinetic stage composition.

An actor, as the narrator in the poet's voice, two musicians and four dancers collaborate on stage, to create a lively, mixed spectacle.

...
Hey you,
Heaven!
Take your hat off,
When you see me near!

Silence.

The universe sleeps.
Placing its paw
Under the black, star-infested ear.
